Angled Shots - Taking a Step Beyond the Near Post I PRO GK

VIDEO BREAKDOWN: Near Post Covering on Angled Shots

Things to Remember:

The way I was taught and how I continue to teach my students is that whenever you have a shot from the angle, ALWAYS set ONE STEP BEYOND THE NEAR POST. This gives you more room for error. What I mean by that is if you were to get the slightest deflection on the ball and you were set level or behind the post, you're likely going to push the ball into the goal rather than wide. This step will also help you avoid diving into the post. HOWEVER, if you set one step beyond the post like Pickford so clearly does here, you will put yourself in a better position to make a save and parry the ball wide instead of into your goal.
